Growing up in Los Angeles, Cline started playing guitar at age 12, inspired by Jimi Hendrix. A prolific musician with an instantly recognizable style, he’s played on over 150 albums since starting his professional career and now looks back on a four-decade career as a soloist, bandleader and sideman. His roots lie in jazz, but his boundless work touches other genres such as (alternative) rock, punk, country, pop and experimental. In 2004, he joined the influential indie/country rock band Wilco, which originally formed in the early 1990s. He also leads the Nels Cline Singers, Nels Cline Trio, and the Nels Cline 4, and has been releasing music on the Blue Note label since 2016.
